Ocean/Water Resources — Facilities and Equipment

University of Houston Hydraulics Laboratory

The University of Houston Hydraulics Laboratory is used for research and teaching and includes:

Facilities
  • 35ft x 2.5ft x 2.5ft (length x width x depth) tilting, glass-wall flume capable of running as either a spill-type feed flume or a closed loop sediment and water recirculating flume
  • 120ft  x 4ft x 4ft (length x width x depth) glass wall wave tank
  • 30ft x 1ft x 3ft (length x width x depth) glass wall flume with constant head tank
  • 10ft x 10ft x 2.5ft (length x width x depth) sediment basin
  • Oscillating grid system with tank
Equipment
  • 3D Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters: Vector and Vectrino+
  • Capabilities for Large Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV)
  • Floc imaging system for measuring floc size (10-2000 µm) and settling velocity
  • Valeport Conductivity Sensor
  • Wave gages and pressure transducers
  • Other general laboratory equipment
